About Yoga Therapy
Yoga therapy is a multidimensional, evidence-based approach to improving health, utilising the many tools of yoga and the wisdom of Ayurveda. Current medical research recognises Yoga Therapy as being among the most effective complementary therapies for improving many common health conditions.
Yoga therapy is a self-empowering process where the client works with a yoga therapist in order to develop a personalised program that promotes optimal health. The holistic nature of yoga therapy encourages a healthy mind-body connection which provides insight into underlying patterns of movement, thinking etc., that may be contributing to health issues. Bringing awareness to these patterns and working towards replacing them with healthier, more functional patterns has a profoundly beneficial effect in all areas of life.
Yoga therapy is appropriate for a wide range of health concerns and particularly beneficial in managing and improving chronic health concerns such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, stress, back pain, etc.
How do Yoga Therapy sessions work?
Private yoga therapy sessions with Barbara are specifically tailored to meet individual needs, in order to achieve maximum benefit and consistent progress. You will receive a comprehensive, easy to follow program for home use, that will encourage progression towards to your personal health goals.
Investing in yourself is one of the most important things you can do to create lasting health and contentment! Therefore, Barbara recommends a minimum of six sessions, over a 9 week period, to encourage optimal progress towards a healthy body and calm mind.
Step 1: Attend an initial consultation of 90 minutes during which Barbara listens to your health concerns and desired outcome. During this session, Barbara will also assess your current abilities in regard to movement and breathing. You will be provided with some very simple practices to begin working with at home until we meet for your second session.
Step 2: Following your first session, Barbara will design a program specifically tailored to your needs. During your second session, Barbara will lead you through the practice to ensure you understand the movements and breathing included in your program and give you practical advice for commencing the program at home.
Steps 3: During this practice review session, we check that the program is blending seamlessly into your life and make adjustments, as necessary, to timing etc. We also review movements to check that you are understanding the methodology and provide further instruction as necessary.
Steps 4-6: Three further fortnightly follow up sessions where we review your progress and fine-tune your home program to ensure that it remains current and continues to meet your needs.
Further follow-up sessions are available as and when required. Although over the previous six weeks you will have settled into a workable home program, many of Barbara’s students like to come once every six weeks or so to continue reviewing and developing their practice.
“Yoga therapy is the application of yoga to individuals, empowering them to progress toward greater health and freedom from disease.”
